If re-elected on 8th June I will continue to fight to keep our local services.
Following the devastating closure of Haslar Hospital under the last Labour Government, I have fought to protect the local healthcare services on which our community depends. In early 2011, I joined the campaign led by local mums to secure the reopening of the Blake Maternity Unit at Gosport War Memorial Hospital after midwives were temporarily transferred to QA.
I have twice fought against the closure of Gosport Day Services, a purpose-built centre for adults with learning difficulties. It was threatened with closure back in 2010 and more recently in 2016. I contacted Hampshire County Council expressing mine and the parents and carers concerns' and received confirmation in early 2017 that stated this unique facility was to remain open.
I am passionate about lifelong learning so when I heard that the adult outreach centre in Rowner was set to be closed down, I joined the fight to save it. Our successful campaign led to the resource being reopened in collaboration with St Vincent College at the Nimrod Community Centre where adults can now enrol on courses to boost their basic skills. The 'Out There' project is now flourishing and is even used as an example of excellence on the EU stage.
If re-elected on 8th June I will continue to help protect our local resources.
