Local MP Caroline Dinenage opened the Gosport Men's Shed extension in their home at St Vincent College today.
The Gosport Shed was founded in 2013 to provide a meeting place for men who no longer work and miss the companionship and camaraderie of the workplace and the membership has flourished since, reaching 100 members. There are men from all backgrounds who together combine their skills to help the community.
They are currently making picture frames for specially-commissioned paintings to be displayed on board HMS Warrior, renovating a play area and refurbishing the Institute of Naval Medicine Gardens, to name but a few projects.
During her visit, Caroline spoke to members of the Men's Shed and was given a tour of the new facilities.
She commented:
"I always enjoy catching up with the lovely chaps at the Gosport Men's Shed and was thrilled to see their fantastic extension which they have worked so hard for. I feel a closeness to this group as I was at their very first inaugural meeting and have maintained a close friendship with them ever since!
The Men's Shed gives older men a chance to get together for comradeship, to learn skills and take part in community projects."
Earlier this year, Caroline welcomed members of the Men's Shed to Parliament and supported them during their departure from Fort Brockhurst.
