Local MP Caroline Dinenage visited a thriving new club for adults with learning difficulties in Gosport today.
She joined the Daring 2012 Club for their monthly get-together at the Royal Naval Association clubhouse on Fareham Road. The club, which first opened its doors in March this year, now attracts over 80 people to its monthly meetings.
The club's founder, Mary Claridge, started the club with her grandson Ryan, who she cared for throughout his childhood. Ryan, who has learning difficulties, is now a key member of the club, which lays on lunch, karaoke, bingo and a host of other activities for its members.
Commenting on her visit to the club, Caroline said:
"It was fantastic to see how much this club has flourished in just six months. With members coming from as far as Hayling Island, it's clear what an important and valued resource it is for adults with learning difficulties in our area. Its success is a testament to the brilliant work that Mary, Ryan the Gosport RNA and others are doing, I for one can't remember having that much fun on a Monday morning for a long time!"
The Daring 2012 Club meets every second Monday of the month between 11am-3pm. It's based at the Royal Naval Association clubhouse on Fareham Road, Gosport, and is open to all adults with learning disabilities.
