Caroline Dinenage has welcomed the news that there has been an increase in residents signing up to be a stem cell donor in the Gosport Constituency. The Anthony Nolan charity saves and improves the lives of people with blood cancer through matching patients with donors from their register. The charity informed Caroline that 67 local people were added to the stem cell register since last year, bringing the total to 1236 potential lifesavers.
Every year in the UK, around 2000 blood cancer patients need a stem cell donor to save their life – but too often donors are not avaliable or cannot be found quickly enough. Anthony Nolan works to make sure that patients can be matched quickly for life saving treatment.
Commenting on the news, Caroline said:
"Cancer is a devasting disease, everyone knows either a loved one or friend who has been effected by the illness. I am very grateful for the necessary work that Anthony Nolan does, not only through the register but also their innovative research and supporting patients and their families throuhgout their transplant journey. I am delighted by the news that increasing numbers of residents are signing up to this vital register."
