Yesterday I talked about our fabulous 'Out There' project which offers education courses to adults in our local area. Having led a debate in the House of Commons about the importance of adult literacy and numeracy, a secured a high level Parliamentary inquiry to look into this important matter. We took evidence from a number of experts and published a report showing that there is still an alarmingly high proportion of adults with low literacy and numeracy skills. We set out recommendations such as reassessing the funding provision for literacy and numeracy courses and moving away from the traditional approach to qualification attainment.
It was really important that the inquiry took place as it will help to inform future Government policy on this important matter.
