“As the world evolves, our children and education system needs to adapt and reap the benefits from technological advances. I am delighted to see that technology will be utilised to improve our education system, outcomes for every child and reduce teacher workload.” Caroline Dinenage MP.
Today, the Education Secretary has announced a new Education Technology Strategy that is backed by a £10 million investment.
The Strategy is aiming to improve student outcomes while reducing the workload of teachers. Importantly, it will be used to support learners with conditions such as dyslexia by offering extra independence. It will launch a series of ‘demonstrator’ schools, who will showcase peer-to-peer support and staff training, showing other schools the best practices and benefits of the new system.
The Strategy is aiming to help deliver the Government’s ambition for tech firms to work in relation to education, solving key challenges such as,
- Reducing teacher workload
- Creating greater training opportunities
- Improving anti-cheating software
- Helping those with special education needs and disabilities
Locally, schools and businesses are looking to work in conjunction also. Caroline recently attended the inaugural Gosport and Fareham Multi Academy Trust Business and Education Forum – planning to create better career paths and employability skills for local children.
Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, commented:
“Gosport already is leading the way in innovation. Recently the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds, opened the new Gosport STEM Centre, the first of its kind for Primary pupils. The new Gosport and Fareham Multi Academy Trust Business and Education are also working to ensure our children benefit from local businesses - leaving education with the career knowledge and skills to equip them for the future.
I am delighted to see how the Government is recognising and investing in technology that can help our children and teachers. I look forward to seeing how EdTech will benefit future generations as they adapt to the technological world.”
Education Secretary Damian Hinds said:
“We are living in a digital world with technology transforming the way we live our lives – both at home and in the workplace. But we must never think about technology for its own sake. Technology is an enabler and an enhancer. For too long in education, technology has been seen as something that adds to a teacher’s workload rather than helps to ease.
This strategy is just the first step in making sure the education sector is able to take advantage of all of the opportunities available through EdTech. We now call on schools, businesses and technology developers to realise the huge potential of technology to transform our schools so that teachers have the time to focus on teaching, their own professional development, and – crucially – are able to cater to the needs of every single one of their pupils.”
