Sport and Fitness

Caroline is proud of Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Stubbington and Hill Head’s fantastic sports heritage with BMX champion Ayesha McLelland, Invictus Games competitor John Shepard, world-class yachtsman Alex Thomson, yachtswoman Dee Caffari and Olympian Roger Black all hailing from the constituency!

As a fellow of Sport England, Parliamentary Netball Ambassador and willing tug of war participant for the House of Commons Macmillan Cancer Charity ladies’ team, she promoted sport nationally and lobbied to protect schools sports funding. Caroline worked closely with the local community, staff and parents to secure funding for Bridgemary School’s cutting edge 3G football pitch, and Bay House School's sports hall. She also backs the ‘Daily Mile’ which takes place at a number of schools in our area, encouraging children to get out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom.

She is also a keen supporter of the innovative 'This Girl Can' campaign, which aims to encourage more women and girls to get involved with sport.

In support of local sports teams such as Fareham & Gosport Football and Rugby clubs and the Solent Devils ice hockey team, Caroline has attended local matches. She has been leapt over by the Tigers Motorcycle Display Team and has seen the Goshawks and SUKI gymnasts in action.

Having campaigned hard to change the original route to ensure that the Olympic torch came through Gosport in 2012, Caroline was proud to have held the Olympic Flame as it travelled across Portsmouth Harbour on the Gosport Ferry!
