As the end of the transition period on December 31st looms, Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, is encouraging local businesses to make sure they are prepared for when the UK leaves the Customs Union and Single Market.

Caroline herself has already been in contact with Portsmouth International Port to provide support with their bid for funding from the £200 million Port Infrastructure Fund to help them handle new customs requirements, traffic management and ensure the ports infrastructure is ready on December 31st.

Port officials have a contingency plan in place formed with the Local Resilience Forum. They have confirmed plans to install the final elements of Operation Transmission, to reduce the risk of severe traffic delays on surrounding roads.

Negotiations with the European Union continue daily to secure a trade deal before the end of the transition period, however, regardless of the outcome businesses across Gosport, Hill Head, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent will need to check and change to ensure they can continue trading in the new year.

Caroline commented:

“While the government continues to work around the clock to secure a trade deal with the EU, no matter the outcome, businesses in the Gosport Constituency need to check that they are ready for when we leave the Customs Union and Single Market.

“To ensure that we can continue exporting, trading and selling after December 31st, I urge all local businesses to check what they need to do, make the necessary changes and get going.”
