Local WWII veteran, Ron Cross, has received 66 birthday cards from local residents wishing him happy 100th birthday tomorrow.
Ron is a decorated veteran who received the Legion d’honneur for his role in D-Day and an MBE for his nearly 40 years of work as an occupational therapist at the Royal Hospital Haslar.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, Ron will not be celebrating this milestone surrounded by his friends and family. However, his granddaughter has asked local residents to send in cards to local MP Caroline Dinenage’s office to make sure that Ron can celebrate with the wider community.
Local residents have come out in force to congratulate Ron on reaching this milestone.
Caroline commented:
“It is great to see that Ron has received so many fantastic cards from constituents.
“The community has really come together throughout this crises, and this is just another example of how residents are there supporting each other.
“A massive happy birthday to Ron, who is 100 years young and I hope celebrating in style at home! I am sure a big party awaits when he can finally be reunited with his loved ones.”
Ron’s granddaughter, Amy Cross, commented:
“Thank you to everyone that has responded to the appeal to wish my Grandad a Happy 100th Birthday.
“This will surely bring a smile to his face. I'd also like to thank Caroline and her team for putting the word out for me.”
