MP encourages applicants for international training programme

Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the launch of a new international trade training programme.

The International Trade Secretary, The Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP has launched the programme aimed towards those interested in a future career in negotiation, policy making and HM Trade Commissions.

This world’s first scheme offers a unique opportunity for people of all ages and experience levels who are looking to kick-start their career in International Trade.

The two-year scheme, which pays £30,561 per annum, includes placements with the UK’s expert trade negotiating teams working on future trade agreements with allied partners, as well as the teams supporting UK companies in import and export, and a six-month international placement in one of the Department’s 127 international offices.

Unlike traditional graduate schemes, no qualifications are needed to apply for this programme, with the majority of candidates expected to be school leavers aged 18 or over, people switching careers or those looking to work in Government for the first time.

Caroline Dinenage MP commented:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is interested in international trade, I hope that many ambitious people across Gosport will apply for this position.”

The scheme is intended to develop the UK’s talent pool, as the UK prepare to leave the EU and implement an independent trade policy for the first time in 40 years. Candidates are not required to hold a degree or previous experience in Government – instead the department  is asking for commitment to learn, develop and work in one of the most fascinating roles in the global economy.

The Department for International Trade’s Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser, Crawford Falconer said:

“This is a great opportunity to show young people that there is a whole range of careers in trade and, for the first time, DIT is opening up these opportunities.

“I look forward to working with some of these young people when they become entrepreneurs, exporters and even trade experts in my team.”
