Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the news that new mental health ‘hubs’ will be opening in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, supporting new, expectant or bereaved mothers in the Gosport Constituency.
10 initial sites, including in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Devon, Birmingham and Solihull, are expected to open in the coming months. Another 16 sites are expected to be up and running by next April.
NHS England have said that the clinics will “integrate maternity, reproductive health and psychological therapy for women experiencing mental health difficulties directly arising from, or related to, the maternity experience.”
They will offer a wide range of care from before conception until 24 months after birth – creating an umbrella service of maternity care and psychological therapy. Maternity staff and midwives will receive specialist training to ensure that they are providing the best possible care.
Caroline commented:
“Every mother has a unique journey before, during and after childbirth. Sadly, many mothers can feel isolated and alone during this experience.
“It is vital that we support mothers through every step to protect both their, and their child’s, wellbeing. I am really pleased that our local area will benefit from one of the new mental health hubs to support parents across Gosport, Hill Head, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent.”
