Local MP, Dame Caroline Dinenage hosted the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Meri Akopyan, along with representatives from UK, Ukraine, Germany and Poland Fire Services, in UK Parliament this month attended by Home Secretary, Rt Hon Priti Patel MP.

The Minister and Fire Chiefs, representing countries who are all contributing to the aid effort in Ukraine, were attending a conference in the UK.

They were joined by representatives from the UK Home Office, FIRE AID and the  Fire Industry Association Home.

Home Secretary, Rt Hon Priti Patel MP took the time to meet the attendees in Parliament and hear to how their collective effort in providing assistance and aid to Ukraine is making a difference to the country in its time of need.

Discussions were around how this joint effort can continue to further help and provide assistance to Ukraine. Russia’s continued war and aggression against Ukraine must be stopped.

The NFCC said 100 fire stations and 250 fire engines have been destroyed in Ukraine as the war with Russia continues.

FIRE AID in partnership with the UK Fire and Rescue Services have donated over 60 decommissioned fire and rescue vehicles and more than 10,000 items of equipment, kit, and PPE to support rescue workers on the frontline. This has been led by FIRE AID and the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), with support from the Home Office, the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST), the FIA Foundation and the Fire Industry Association.

Commenting Caroline said:

“Our own fire and rescue services are going above and beyond to support the effort in Ukraine. It is also truly heart-warming to hear how these countries are all working together and I was honoured to meet with these individuals who are organising this vital support.”

Claire Hoyland, director of Fire Aid international development said:

"We are delighted to host our international partners from Ukraine, Poland and Germany in the UK. Also bringing together partners from across the Uk fire and rescue services, fire industry and Uk charities to agree an international working partnership to support Ukraine and to plan how we can continue to support them. "
