Yesterday, local MP, Dame Caroline Dinenage, asked Leo Docherty MP, the Minister for Defence People and Veterans, in Ministry of Defence Oral Parliamentary Questions whether there is parity of esteem between veterans with physical injuries and those with psychological illnesses sustained during service.
Caroline asked the Minister if he could meet with her to discuss what support is available to her constituents in Gosport, many of whom are working age veterans, who are struggling with mental health.
Caroline asked:
“Can the Minister reassure the House that there is parity of esteem between veterans with physical injuries and those with psychological illnesses sustained during their service? Will he meet me to discuss the support available to my constituents, working age veterans, who are struggling with mental ill health as thy adjust to civilian life?”
Responding, Minister for Defence People and Veterans, Leo Docherty, said:
“I do agree and I am pleased that we do have parity of esteem and parity of provision for the NHS Of Courage which is available for the mental health of veterans. I do look forward to sharing this with her at a future opportunity.”
