This Volunteers Week, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage is thanking all the volunteers who have gone above and beyond throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Volunteers Week is an annual celebration for those who give up their time to give back to their community.
From the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, there has been a significant increase in local residents joining forces to support the community as they face the impact of the virus. From the 750 000 people across the country that signed up to be a NHS Volunteer Responder, to community whatsapp groups supporting residents with essential tasks, to those running local foodbanks and sewing garments for the NHS.
In Gosport, Caroline has been overwhelmed by the response of constituents. She has spoken and met with Lin Gell and the Team Scrubbers who have sewn over 1000 garments for healthcare providers. She has also had the opportunity to visit Acts of Kindness who are providing a community response through an army of volunteers and keeps in touch with Covid-19 volunteer response teams.
Volunteers have come in all forms – from those who have signed up with the Gosport Voluntary Action Group to neighbours helping those on their lane.
Her own recent #ActsOfKindess campaign for Mental Health Week encouraged constituents to nominate a resident for their generous gestures during the pandemic, with many highlighting how neighbours have been providing companionship and assistance during these tough times.
Caroline commented:
“Volunteers deserve the recognition for their work throughout the year, but especially as more and more people are giving up their time for others during the pandemic.
“Speaking to residents, local organisations and charity groups I have been overwhelmed by the community response to this crises. It has been incredibly heart-warming to see how people have been supporting each other.
“A massive thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work!”
