Caroline has a deep appreciation for the historical link which Gosport shares with Portsmouth. Connectivity across the harbour has played a vital role in Gosport's economic development for centuries, and now, as the largest town in the UK without a railway station, our maritime links are even more significant to ensure that we remain connected and that Gosport's potential is fully unlocked.
Concerns about the future of our cross-harbour transport was raised by local residents following the closure of late-night ferry services in February 2025.
In May 2025, Caroline organised a summit in Portsmouth to explore the opportunities that a new Water Taxi service, whether on-demand or by scheduled services, could bring to the area and what they may look like. This summit involved over 40 key local representatives, business leaders, and elements of the existing maritime industry, which powers the economy of the entire Solent.
Since then, Caroline has held action group meetings to coordinate a sense of direction to get the project moving. Additionally, she has met with various national stakeholders who have expressed investment interest, as well as representatives from the public sector, highlighting funding options from the Department for Transport.
Caroline is eager for this project to make headway and will continue to hold such meetings to find a workable and practical solution. Watch Caroline discuss the summit here on That's TV Solent: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1055560696688331
